New York City is becoming an absolute wreck with soaring crime and failing policy. Miami, on the other hand, is a success story. The mayor behind that success now wants to be President.
The mayor announced he will be joining the GOP nomination race yesterday. But unlike New York Mayors (for example, DeBlasio who has been ‘ordered to pay $475K for misusing public funds on his failed White House bid’), he isn’t exactly a household name.
His campaign video is at the top of the article.
But who is he? Why is he running?
George Stephanopoulos had him on to explain.
Miami is booming.
Some of the lowest unemployment in the country.
Construction starts are rocking.
Homelessness has been slashed to about six hundred people.
And while so many parts of the country grapple with soaring crime rates, Miami is trending the other direction.
Violent crime is down in Miami, according to the latest statistics released by the city Monday.
Crime stats for the first quarter of the year show the city is moving in the right direction. For the first three months of 2023, murders are down 36% in the city. In 2022, there were 11 homicides reported during that time period. This year, seven homicides have been reported. Shootings are down almost 60% compared to the same time last year.
The number of people shot is down almost 70% from year to year, from 51 in 2022 down to 16 in 2023. — NBCMiami
