Doocy’s Latest Question Gave KJP The Giggles
Even 'adversarial relationships' can sometimes enjoy a little levity
When a reporter knows he’s going to get stonewalled on a difficult question, but he has to keep asking it anyway, a professional will look for a fresh framing of the question.
Even if the question doesn’t get answered, the interaction itself might bring attention to the refusal to engage certain questions.
Doocy opted to use a light touch on a question that highlighted the unpleasant fact that Joe Biden had yet another document dump show up, and he would have to ask her about it again.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
What made this so relatable is that it acknowledged the difficult position an official White House spokes person would find herself in, when faced with a drip-drip-drip of a scandal that just kept getting bigger.
Here is the question:
DOOCY TO KJP: “When you found out that the FBI located even more Classified Materials in Wilmington, which four letter word did you use?” pic.twitter.com/pLI7cH1DP7

That wasn’t his only question. With people still grinning after that initial icebreaker, he asked about whether Biden was still planning on running for re-election (implied, but not mentioned in his question: ‘despite this unfolding scandal’).
Doocy: Biden still intending to run for President in 2024?
KJP: Yes, he intends to run. pic.twitter.com/FNNQ2KpSLP

She answered in the affirmative.
Her answer set up the ‘gotcha’ question Doocy was working toward:
Doocy: Is there a precedent for people running for President after FBI agents search their sock drawer?
KJP: It sounds like you already know the answer to that question.
Doocy: I don't know the answer to that question. An FBI search of his residence is a big, big deal. pic.twitter.com/NK3AamLyzD

He wasn’t done yet. House Oversight suggested this looked like it had the makings of a cover-up. So he asked about that:
DOOCY: "Is President Biden involved in a cover-up?"
KJP: "He takes this very seriously…You asked me kind of a question that everybody laughed at, which was an interesting question to ask…" pic.twitter.com/lbCB4xBzT1

When Conservatives invoke the idea of ‘happy warrior’ … this is the sort of interaction we have in mind.
