EARLY EDITION: Five Quick News Stories For Your Water Cooler Chat (Wed. Feb 22)

1. Biden’s new border plan takes a page from Trump’s

Now that North of 5 million people have sauntered over the border and even Democrat leaders are calling for change, team Biden is bringing forward a new policy. That policy looks an awful lot like the one Democrats challenged in court when Trump was president.

The way asylum laws are supposed to work is that you apply for asylum in the first safe country you step into. With people from over 140 (160?) countries claiming asylum, the system is obviously being gamed.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

With a few exceptions, Biden will be adopting a policy that rejects asylum claims from any 3rd nation country that stops somewhere else before coming here.

The rule is expected to go in force when Title 42 lapses on May 11th. (That happens to be the same date Biden was proposing for an official end to the pandemic).

2. Anti-Woke crusader enters GOP Presidential primary

As Vivek Ramaswamy’s book titles from the last two years would indicate, he is something of a crusader against leftist identitarian politics. (Those titles are: Nation of Victims: Identity Politics, the Death of Merit, and the Path Back to Excellence and Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam)

His recent video clip was a call for a 21st Century Declaration of Independence from our current reliance on China (which would require near-term pain to avert long-term disaster). That plan would include a rejection of the current practice of tilting at windmills (and solar) which ultimately make us take Chinese energy dependence in place of our prior OPEC independence.

Whatever degree of success he may have in the primaries himself, he is certain to introduce some important concepts into the debate as the GOP decides what the key issues they need to champion going into 2024.

3. State Republican uses sarcasm to mock draconian NIMBYism

We often think of Illinois as a deep-blue state. Thanks mostly to Chicago, that’s true.

But there is a lot more to the state than just Chicago. Outside of the windy city, there are a lot of Republicans tired of getting kicked in the teeth by leftist policies they don’t have sufficient votes to block.

State Sen. Chapin Rose isn’t happy about Pritzker’s NIMBY environmental zoning laws that conveniently exclude Chicago from new State requirements to build new wind and solar. He doesn’t have the votes to make his case, so he’s using sarcasm to draw attention to the hypocrisy.

He introduced the If This Is Such A Good Idea, Let’s Start With You Act, calling for wind and solar to be introduced in all city parks, including at least one wind turbine on ‘Cloud Gate’, as well as converting Millenium Park to a solar panel park.

4. Kyle Rittenhouse headed back to court

After being acquitted of any guilt that fateful night in Kenosha, Kyle still isn’t finished in court. This time, he’s being sued by one of the guys who pointed a gun at him.

Yes, you read that correctly. Gaige Grosskreutz, the guy with the Glock whose bicep was blown apart, has taken Rittenhouse to civil court.

Grosskreutz is suing for ‘damages for emotional distress, humiliation, loss of enjoyment of life, and other pain and suffering on all claims’ because he must live with the ‘physical and emotional wounds inflicted by Defendant Rittenhouse and the Defendants who deputized and enabled him’.

This is the same guy whose court testimony included the following exchange:

Defense: “Sir, look…Does this look like right now your arm is being shot?”
Grosskreutz: “That looks like my bicep being vaporized yes.”
Defense: “It’s being vaporized because you’re pointing a gun directly at him, yes?”
Grosskreutz: “Yes.”
Defense: “When you’re standing 3-5 feet from him with your arms up in the air he never fired. Right?”
Grosskreutz: “Correct.”

5. Miami high-school coach filmed sex act between two 16yo students… wanted to participate

Charges are filed against Yuniesky Ramirez-Martinez, 37, who is accused of enticing two teens from Downtown Doral Charter Upper School to perform a sex act while he filmed them on Valentines day. He allegedly fist-bumped the male student before pressuring the female student to perform the same unnamed sex act on himself over the next few days — including threatening to tell her parents they were having sex if she didn’t give him what he wanted.

Once she was threatened, she notified school officials, which eventually led to an arrest. Security footage shows him leading the teens to an AV room where he filmed them with his phone through a a-2-way window. The footage also shows the fist bump.

Ramirez-Martinez had only been on the job a few weeks before his arrest.
