Delicious Irony: Trump Is The Only Living President NOT Descended From Slave-Owners

And yes, that DOES include Barack Obama

When the Mueller Report came up empty, the NYTimes held a meeting. After a couple of years worth of nothing-but-Russia, they needed a new emphasis. They found one: race.

According to a leaked transcript of that meeting, the next two years were going to stop telling every story through a Trump-is-compromised filter and start telling every story through a Trump is racist filter:

Baquet vowed a transition to a new “vision” for the paper for the next two years. “How do we grapple with all the stuff you all are talking about?” he said to the staffer. “How do we write about race in a thoughtful way, something we haven’t done in a large way in a long time? That, to me, is the vision for coverage. You all are going to have to help us shape that vision. But I think that’s what we’re going to have to do for the rest of the next two years.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The headline controversy, it appears, was a preview of a new 2019-2020 New York Times. If Baquet follows through, the paper will spend the next two years, which just happens to be the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, building the Trump-is-a-racist narrative. (Baquet added, almost as an afterthought, that the Times will “continu[e] to cover his policies.”) — Washington Examiner 2019

It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out they followed through on that tactic, with great success. There’s irony in that approach for a couple of reasons.

First, there is no more direct evidence of Trump being a ‘bigot’ before the news media decided to make him one than there was that he was a Russian puppet. In Charlottesville where Trump made the infamous quote so often misquoted, Acosta himself tweeted that Trump had called racism evil. Since Acosta was the one who asked the question leading to Trump’s ‘both sides’ line, that should be important context.

Second, is a dip into history even funnier than that of Liz Warren’s attempt to say her high cheekbones showed evidence of Cherokee ancestry. According to a new Reuters report, she is the descendant of slave owners. And so are a lot of other prominent people.

In fact, there is only one living president who is NOT descended from slave owners.

If you guessed Barack Obama, you guessed WRONG.

Trump is the only living president who did not have any slave-owning ancestors.

That puts Michelle Obama’s complaint about living in a White House that was built by slaves in a whole different light, doesn’t it?

In a world where 1619 narratives have eclipsed the importance of 1776 principles and people are split into groups: some are judged by the sins of past generations while others are classed as ‘oppressed victims’ on the other side of the same equation, racial politics are keeping us locked in the past, like insects trapped in amber.

Like insects in amber, the past is neither dead and gone, nor are those living in the present truly alive and free.

Maybe, instead of looking for ways to smear each other with one of the most insidious insults available to our culture, we can lay aside our need to peer endlessly into a past we cannot change and look for productive ways forward.

For instance, the kind of solutions that Trump enacted while president.

For example: bringing unemployment in ALL demographics, across ALL ethnicities to historic lows, and creating special economic zones.
