Trump Takes High Road… Shuts Down RNC Attempt To Coronate Him

He'd rather win fair and square

With convincing wins in the Iowa and New Hampshire, it’s pretty obvious which way the wind is blowing. It’s easy to understand the frustration some may feel when the challenger keeps fighting.

But as long as they have the will and the means to fight on, they have every right to do so. Even those who think Nikki Haley is unrealistic in her expectations of success will agree that she need not concede until the end.

Someone in the RNC got it in their heads to rush the process and skip ahead to declaring a winner, probably so everyone could turn their energies to winning the general. A draft resolution was proposed by a Trump ally from Maryland that he be treated as the ‘presumptive nominee’ and suggested that there was no evidence of a mathematical pathway to success for her run.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The draft resolution from David Bossie, a Maryland national committee member and longtime Trump ally, had been circulating among RNC members ahead of the party’s winter meeting in Las Vegas. NBC News obtained the draft from two sources Thursday.

“RESOLVED that the Republican National Committee hereby declares President Trump as our presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States and from this moment forward moves into full general election mode welcoming supporters of all candidates as valued members of Team Trump 2024,” the resolution reads. — NBCNews

It kicked up a stir, as one would expect. Trump wasn’t long in responding.

Sure, he did some posturing — he’s still Trump after all — but he didn’t take the easy way out.

He wanted a win that could unify the party, not rip us apart.

The resolution, as you would expect, has been withdrawn.
